Okay, okay, so you cannot technically join the mile-high club in the first Arlanda Airport hostel to be built inside a plane. Yes, the Jumbo Hostel, opening in December 2008, is built inside an old Boeing 747-200 with 25 rooms and 85 beds. And, they are calling it a hostel so most of the rooms will have three bunk beds meaning you may have to share with other travelers. But you can have the mile-high experience in general by sleeping in this hotel. Let your dreams take you to the skies. And, nudge nudge, wink wink, if there is an empty room and/or the manager is in a good mood, you may be able to get a room to yourself with your partner such as in the former cockpit area and now a deluxe suite.
Once this hostel opens, it will officially become the coolest Stockholm Airport hotel. Where else can you say you slept in an airplane hotel? Also, if you do not want to sleep there but just want to see what all the excitement is about, you can just drop in as they will have a cafe and windows for people to watch the traffic in to and out of Stockholm-Arlanda airport. They have even opened up one wing for walking on so you can experience what it feels like to stand on the wing of a jumbo jet. Reportedly, in the future they will hold wedding ceremonies on the wing as well.
Now travelers looking for a Stockholm Airport hotel need not pay hotel prices if you are just looking for a few hours of shuteye or a bed to sleep for the night before your early morning flight. It will be much more comfortable then sleeping uncomfortable airport terminal chairs I am sure. You can just stay at the new Arlanda Airport hostel, the Jumbo Hostel. It is in the perfect place as it is just 10 minutes walk from the check-in counter. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be sure to check it out next time I am there. It has to be one of the coolest hostels in Stockholm or the world.
The Department of Homeland Security was founded after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. This new department brought together twenty-two separate agencies under one overarching banner. This move solidified the purpose and focus of each agency and gave them overall greater levels of efficiency and intra-agency capacity. In short, they were better able to work together for a common goal due to being under the same department.
What all this means for the prospective job seeker is that this one department has hundreds of jobs readily available that pay quite well and provide excellent resume fodder for high-end private sector jobs if anyone is interested in changing careers later. Each Branch of the Department of Homeland Security has a different mission objective and differing career paths. There are four branches. Those branches are Law Enforcement, Prevention and Response, Immigration and Travel Security, and Mission Support.
Law Enforcement is the most recognized branch. This component of the Dept of Homeland Security jobs search will feature such notable professions as Federal Marshall and Secret Service agent. There are many other components as well, but these two are the best known. The Federal Marshall service is responsible for many government programs designed for protecting citizens. This includes transporting federal prisoners and the witness protection program. The Secret Service is best known for protecting the president and other notable figures.
Prevention and Response is the branch recognized by many for its component parts known as FEMA and the US Coast Guard. This branch focuses on protecting and guarding America’s citizens and economic interests in maritime regions as well as emergency response during disasters. The coast guard is known for rescuing individuals at sea and busting human and drug traffickers at sea and in port. FEMA is best known for natural disaster response teams as well as rendering relief during terrorist attacks and major industrial accidents.
Immigration and Travel Security is the branch in charge of protecting America’s transportation systems and providing Immigration services. Two of the most well known professions in this branch are the Federal Air Marshall and the US immigration officer. The Air Marshall’s are known for guarding airplanes during flight and securing airports. Immigration is known for processing legal and illegal immigrants.
Mission Support is a branch dedicated to medical, clerical, and economic focus. This is the branch that works with policies and many other similar aspects of the Department of Homeland Security. This component is best known for its medical research and budgeting factions as well as such agencies as Domestic Nuclear Detection and the National Cybersecurity Center.
There are a wide variety of Dept. Of Homeland Security Jobs available to those seeking them.
www.baumhedlundlaw.com – Just months after the tragic airplane crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 at Clarence Center, NY new details about the pilot and co-pilots background have been released, including their low salaries which have shocked the public. Former Comair Captain John Greaves, who is now an aviation accident attorney, explained the effects such a low salary can have on pilots. For example, the hubs of some of these regional airlines are in high cost of living areas where it would be nearly impossible to maintain a decent living. Therefore many of these pilots travel hundreds of miles to keep their jobs. Mr. Greaves says the attitude of these smaller air carriers like Colgan Air, that are paying pilots such small salaries but offering flight experience to move on to the major airlines, is not safe and the public deserves more. His alternative would be to pay regional pilots good salaries just like you do the majors and you keep the pilots…you dont have them for a stepping stone; you keep the pilots. They get their experience there; they stay there; they make careers there. Youre going to have a much safer airline that way.
This summer I’ve been in the US. The travel takes a very long time when you depart from Norway. On our way back home we used 26 full hours. Plus the timezone difference of 6 hours. When flying from this beautiful country, it’s very usual to fly via either London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt or Paris when you’re going intercontinental and out of Europe. This time, I was flying via London Heathrow LHR. The airplane was a British Airways Airbus A320 -200 Flight BA763. I was seated at 19F. It was a pretty awesome flight with scattered clouds just about the whole trip. The flight time was 2 hours and 15 minutes and we cruised at 38000 feet in pretty exatly 800 kilometers per hour / 495 Miles per hour / 430 knots. We had a beautiful approach just over London, If you look closely you can see the Hyde Park and the river Themes during the wonderful approach. The touchdown at runway 27L at Heathrow was kinda rough. The pilot misstimed the flare for landing, so we flared ( straighten up the aircraft before touchdown to make it smooth ) a bit to early. This resulted in that the plane to straighten up a couple of feet above the asphalt, before it struck the ground. I tried to show it on the screens in the video, but if you wonder a bit what is going on there we had to circle around two complete times before landing just a bit outside London because of a huge amount of traffic at Heathrow. Our connecting flight this day was flight VS001, a Virgin Atlantic Airbus A340 – 600 ( The fuselage is …
